2024 Repainting Project – St Joseph’s School, Woodburn
In 2024, Rick Gilliland Painting had the honour of assisting with the recovery of St Joseph’s School in Woodburn, NSW, following the devastating floods that impacted the region. This project was about more than just repainting; it was about restoring a sense of normalcy and pride for the school community as they rebuilt after such a challenging time.
The Project Scope
The extensive flooding had caused significant damage to the school’s interior and exterior surfaces. The task involved:
- Repainting classrooms, hallways, and communal areas to restore them to a welcoming and inspiring condition.
- Refreshing the school’s exterior to revive its appearance and provide lasting protection against future weather conditions.
- Using high-quality, flood-resistant coatings to ensure durability and longevity in a region prone to extreme weather.
Our Process
-
Preparation and Repairs: Surfaces were thoroughly cleaned and dried to remove debris, dirt, and moisture caused by the flooding. Damaged walls, ceilings, and woodwork were repaired to create a smooth and stable base for painting.
-
Interior Repainting: Classrooms and hallways were repainted in bright, vibrant colours to foster a cheerful and engaging environment for students and staff. Durable, low-VOC paints were used to prioritise air quality and minimise disruption during application.
-
Exterior Restoration: The school’s exterior was carefully restored using weather-resistant paints designed to withstand future challenges from the elements. Special attention was given to feature areas, ensuring a polished, professional finish.
The Results
The transformation of St Joseph’s School was both functional and uplifting. The freshly painted classrooms and hallways provided a bright and inspiring atmosphere, while the exterior repaint brought the school’s façade back to life, making it a proud focal point of the community once again.
Students, staff, and the wider community were thrilled with the results, seeing the restored school as a symbol of resilience and hope.
Why This Project Was Significant
This project went beyond aesthetics—it was about helping a community recover after a natural disaster. The work at St Joseph’s School demonstrated the power of painting and restoration to heal spaces and uplift spirits, reminding us of the importance of supporting one another in times of need.
